Christopher Martin is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sewing, sculpture, poetry, tattoo artistry, music, and installation. Moving fluidly across mediums, he weaves them into a singular narrative rooted in minimalism and lyricism. Working predominantly in black and white, Martin distills words and imagery to their essence, creating works that balance stark simplicity with emotional depth. His art resonates with themes of the African Diaspora, shifting between hope and melancholy while leaving a lasting impression of clarity and power.
Martin’s commitment to crossing boundaries extends beyond his studio practice. His work has been recognized with significant institutional honors, including being named the first-ever Artist-in-Residence at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco (MoAD AIR, 2018) and the inaugural artist for ICA San Francisco (2022). Alongside his exhibitions, he has delivered lectures both in the United States and abroad, further expanding the reach of his voice and vision.
