James Joyce The Pleasure Is All Mine, 2025
75 x 75 cm
James Joyce’s The Pleasure Is All Mine expands on the artist’s ongoing investigation into how emotion and identity can be communicated through the most essential visual cues. Drawing from his well-known deconstructed clown series, Joyce pulls apart the traditional features of a face—cheeks, eyes, nose, and mouth—and rebuilds them as floating geometric shapes that hover between abstraction and personality. This reductionist approach reflects Joyce’s broader practice, which centers on clarity, repetition, and the semiotics of modern visual culture, where meaning is often delivered through simplified symbols rather than full images. In this print, soft pink curves, bright red and blue circles, and stark black marks come together in a composition that feels playful yet purposely fragmented. The work captures Joyce’s ability to distill the comedy and absurdity of human expression into a crisp graphic language, creating a piece that is instantly readable but endlessly open to interpretation.
