From the artist:
Found in Florence, called Gran Crema Caffè rather than an affogato at Vivoli since 1929. When I was living in Italy a couple of years ago, I made a coffee collection called “Black Water”. I photographed this piece for the collection but it didn’t make the cut. It wasn’t staying on the discard pile - I was waiting for its moment. For me, an affogato sits firmly categorised as a dessert rather than your morning cup of joe. To be fair, I don’t know if anything in Italy can be classified as average, or at least I have the ignorance to believe so. I believe in the magic, I believe in what I taste, and my god, I believe in the way in which good food, good drinks or a good combination of the both is served. It’s obvious, isn’t it? Italian coffee and Italian gelato - it would hardly be a bad match.
