From the artist:
Maybe it started with pregnancy, or maybe it was long before that, but it hasn’t subsided since I gave birth. It’s honed into an all-out obsession. It’s my obsession with the viewing and consequently tasting of sugar-based foods. Where some are plant-based, I like to be invited back to people’s homes for meals, so I eat everything and bring along something sweet for a post-meal-please-compliment-me moment. My gifts of cakes, desserts, biscuits and pies do not look like this lemon meringue pie slice. This piece showcases the skill and beauty of Audrey Allard, the owner and chef of Holy Sugar in Melbournes Northcote. I went to her cake shop to do some research. Research and tasting. Research, tasting and the best way to spend an afternoon in any city, on any day. Her impossibly sharp lines and exaggerated proportions quickly put my attempts to shame. So much so that I didn’t attempt to compete. This is her lemon meringue, my depiction and your treat. Thank you, Holy Sugar.
